McPherson Environmental Resources (MER)

is a woman-owned small consulting business primarily serving the TriCities area of NE Tennessee and SW Virginia. MER believes that environmentally conscious design and construction are natural first steps to economic, cultural and environmental sustainability. Along the way, we treat our natural and human resources with honor and respect; and we recognize and accept that our legacy is created by the decisions we make as creators of tomorrow’s built environment.
“Sustainability” means ....
  • that we employ strategies that work in a cyclical manner by reducing consumption, and by using and reusing manufactured products that contain recycled content before recycling them yet again.
  • use of energy efficient lighting, HVAC and other appliances and equipment that new technology has made available.
  • using the sun when we can to preheat water, to provide electricity, or to directly provide light and heat.
  • that we “think” about where we build and how we orient and use our buildings.
  • buildings will have a longer life and will provide a healthier atmosphere for happier and more productive employees.
  • our construction, operations and maintenance will produce less really useless waste.
